Success should never be a secret: Shayla’s Story with a Black Owned Career Development Company

Hey Bee Hey, It's Momma Bee here. There are over 100,000 members in our hive. There are so many success stories. Everytime a post comes in the hive saying “I got the Job” the bees in the hive start buzzing around in circles doing our rendition of a praise dance.  We are so excited by these stories of absolute triumph, I decided to share them with everyone. As soon as the post goes up the bee keepers that have done services for the bees are alerted in our chat. Oftentimes, these bees are in tears because they have heard the stories inside the storm. Shayla’s Story

Shayla couldn’t wait to get in her car and get a couple of miles from her job so she could snatch that wig off. Her hair was mid-length, but working the night shift and getting off with only five hours to live her life and sleep before she went to her next part-time job just didn’t give much time for hair appointments. Shayla didn't have a lot of options because life had been lifeing. She really hadn't looked into any career changes. To Shayla, her job experience was very brief. For the past three years, she had been a stripper at night and worked at the dispensary during the daytime three days a week. Pole dancing just didn't seem like a skill set that would get her into the corporate life she dreamed of. That was until one day she googled Black owned career development company. That's how she found us, Black On The Job. She found the Facebook page and got engrossed in reading post after post. For shits and giggles, she tuned into the Live one Wednesday. Little did Shayla know her life was about to change. She laughed so hard during the live show, and she learned so much that she booked services.. The next part is in Shayla's words.

“I booked the Career change package. I can't describe the level of comfort I had speaking to someone who looked like me. We went through my transferable skills. The ones I didn't even know I had. The resume writer team composed my resume. The following week, I got an email with my new resume. When I first started reading it I thought they had sent me someone else's resume. My stripper job was now listed as a Consumer Insight Analyst. My professional background was starting to make sense to me. The things I learned that day on the call let me know that I did have a unique skill set that was very marketable. I learned that my professional background did matter on a resume. Before that call, I didn't even know I had a professional background."

• Collected and analyzed customer behavior data (preferences, spending patterns, responsiveness to offerings) to tailor experiences that increased client satisfaction and repeat business.

• Conducted informal market research by observing cultural and lifestyle trends in nightlife to adapt services and stay relevant with consumer demand.

• Developed strong communication and presentation skills by building rapport with diverse audiences, adapting messaging to customer needs, and creating engaging experiences.

• Managed personal business metrics, tracking performance data (earnings per shift, peak times, sales performance) to evaluate strategies and improve outcomes.

Today I work for a brand name liquor company. It is the perfect career for me, and I have traveled all over the country to do research at various clubs. I am familiar with the nightlife so I am able to put my skills and experience into dollars and cents. I was instrumental in changing the way a major brand designs bottles to make them more relevant in the ever-changing nightlife trends. I finally got my credit together, and I found a Bee that does Real Estate, and she is helping me in my journey to buy my first home next year.  I am still with the company that I started with. However, six months ago, I started building my own business on the side. I am using my skills to build a consumer insight consultation service. Because, as we say in the hive SKILLS PAY BILLS.
