I Got The Honey

Hey Bees, I see it is time for the payroll course, and I saw a post that said if you have taken the course, give us the honey. So I wanted to share my journey before and after I took the Fundamental Payroll Course.

I took the Fundamental Payroll Course in 2023, right in the middle of drowning in bills.  I worked in customer service and was making $37,000 and barely covering my bills when my manager held a meeting. During that meeting, they went over several operational changes, but the only one I heard was that Fridays would no longer be a full work day but a half day, and that would only be happening every other week because we would now be closed every other Friday. For the life of me, to this day, I don't know why people clapped for that announcement. Because all I could do was try to calculate what that would mean in terms of my bills. I came home that night and was just in a daze. I felt like a deer in headlights with no light if that makes sense. I had seen the post about the payroll program, but I had $300 in my account, so I already didn't have enough, not to mention I had to live on till my next paycheck. I inboxed Admin Cyn, and she told me about after pay programs. I actually signed up that day. I had absolutely no experience doing payroll. But once I got in the class, I found out that most of us did not. But the skills I had from customer service have come in handy a thousand times. My attention to detail, handling confidential information and problem solving made this a perfect fit for me.

After the class I broke off into a study group and practiced for the test. Gerald, the teacher helped us in those groups as well and made sure we were ready for the test.

After successfully passing the test and receiving my certificate I landed a Payroll coordinator role starting at $54,000, fully remote and with healthcare benefits. That was in 2023. I am still at the company in my role but in line for a $10,000 raise!
