Senior Bees: BEE Prepared

Hey Bee Hey! Whey last week I spent some time on Pollination Boulevard with the Bumble Bees. The music was buzzing extra loud over the weekend. So much work is being done this month.The Bees were transferring Pollen over to the hive at warp speed. The faster they work the louder the buzz. This week I am on Hollow Tree lane. The senior bees are busy whipping up some sweet treats for the bees. The worker bees are over on Daisy Lane today.

Just as  I started to dip into the honey I saw Momma bee coming out of the hive. Perfect timing.

I told Mamma bee that a lot of the Senior Bees seem to be worried. With so much change in the economy, and the constant threat to their rightfully earned social security benefits and the cancellation of DEI programs.  More and more older adults are either returning to the workforce or seeking employment for the first time. By 2030 it is estimated that 9.5% of the civilian workforce is expected to be older than 65. That's when Momma Bee sat me down to assure me the hive's well prepared for this and told me to grab my jar so she could give me a little taste of Honey. This week's Taste Of Honey is for our SENIOR BEES!!

Taste of Honey

Being a senior bee is an advantage, not a disadvantage. The qualities that you bring to a company are priceless. Momma Bee then told me how she used her skillset of lived experience and strong character to jumpstart her career in the corporate world at age 48!!

Momma Bee did not even know how to use excel spreadsheet at the time but she knew her son did, so she agreed that she could get the job done. I asked momma Bee just how did she land her first management position. She explained that she was buzzing around an office at an entry-level position (due to her lack of experience). But she was dressing like an executive due to her knowledge of perception. While everyone dressed in jeans that had entry-level positions and they all ate lunch together. 

Momma Bee was dressed like an executive and could often be spotted chit-chatting with the company owner outside when he would take smoke breaks. She befriended a young lady in the compliance department and often ate lunch with her. So naturally when the manager was fired they were looking to hire from within and Momma Bee fit the job description.  Not because of her experience or managerial skill. Heck, she didn't have any. It was lived experience and perception that landed her the job. While the younger people often called in when running late. 

Momma Bee left thirty minutes earlier than needed everyday, so she didn't run late. While the blue jean wearing workers often giggled and acted inappropriately at times during the down times of day. 

Momma Bee treated every minute there like an executive meeting. I let Momma Bee know I loved the story but where is the honey?

Momma Bee looked at me and buzzed a smile. She said “Blogger Bee that is the honey! Let the senior bees know that lived experience and character combined with work ethic and professionalism makes them more valuable than someone half their age with no lived experience, poor work ethics and unable to think on their feet without checking a book."
