The Sound of Violence and Career Growth: Why Receptionist and Paralegal Roles Can Help Survivors Thrive

Updated: Oct 9

Hey Bee, Hey, it's blogger bee here with another Taste of Honey!! Today, I am going down to Eucalyptus Road to visit some of our bees that have been in verbally abusive relationships. Momma Bee insists that the survivors of the wasps (verbally abusive males) stay on Eucalyptus road till they heal. Wasps are afraid of the eucalyptus. They tend to really hone in on some of our kinder bees during late summer and early fall. This is the time of year when wasps become more aggressive. In the hive, we don't dignify them as men. We call them wasps.

Woman in a white top sitting on a chair. Text reads: "The Sound of Violence and Career Growth: Why Receptionist and Paralegal Roles Can Help Survivors Thrive."

The misconception of society is that a woman who is living in a verbally abusive household is not in danger. The services are limited and in most states don't even exist at all. I guess they are still going by that old saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones. But words will never hurt me.” Well, obviously, it was a wasp that made that quote famous. Because if you ask any one of the bees on Eucalyptus road if they were damaged by the words of the wasps, they can describe the sound of violence. Verbal abuse has been directly related to anxiety, high blood pressure, declining health, obesity, self-harm, nervous breakdowns, and severe depression. Yes, violence has a sound. It's loud, damaging, and requires time to heal once a bee finds her wings to fly away. Some of our Bees that have been healing for the past several months are emotionally damaged still, but need to find their way back. Not only have the Bees been gravely affected, but they have baby bees that have heard the sound of violence as well. The bees asked me to go to Momma Bee and see if she could give them a Taste Of Honey…..

Taste Of Honey

Momma Bee, some of our Bees that are recovering from hearing the sound of violence are ready to get back in the workforce, and wanted to know if you could help them with some honey.

“Blogger Bee, this is a very good question. You see, most Bees and their baby Bees who have heard the sound of violence have a very hard time returning to a normal lifestyle. There are no services provided for them. It's not like they can go to a battered home shelter and get food vouchers or rental assistance. Society just does not consider that to be a valid form of desperation. Because their self-esteem when they first escape is all but in the toilet, they have just as hard or even a harder time in some cases as a person who has gone through physical abuse. Being told you are worthless and stupid can have lasting effects on your mental state. But Bee, you have to talk yourself out of the very words that you were talked into.

It is very important that you choose a career path that keeps you in the community. A lot of Bees who have heard the sound of violence over extended periods of time have found joy in starting out as receptionists for law firms. This would be an entry-level position that would allow the bee to get back familiar with smiling at people and would also allow them to get back accustomed to the pleasantries that are extended to them by people, just speaking kindly to them and asking for help. This would also allow them the opportunity to look into securing additional skill sets, such as careers in paralegal. This is a career that would keep them active and learning. The most important thing a Bee can do after drowning out the sound of violence is to fill the air with the sound of knowledge. You will find out you are smarter than what that wasp told you. That's why you have survived.

Well, thank you, Momma Bee, for this taste of honey. I am going to buzz over to the career development and see what career path some of our bees can take, so we can get them back flying again. If you have heard the Sound of violence and are ready to hear the birds singing and the Bees buzzing, contact Black On The Job and let them know you are ready to get back buzzing.
