The Comfortable Bee: Why Building New Skills Keeps You Secure in Changing Times

Updated: Oct 28

Hey Bee, Hey!! Blogger Bee here with another Taste Of Honey from Momma Bee. This weekend, I buzzed over to Chi Town last week to check on some of our Bees that were blindsided by the turmoil that hit the midwest in the middle of the night.

Earler this year inside of our community, we loudly spoke up as the frozen water enforcement agents ripped brown families apart. But, because our citizenship was defined loudly on the backs of our ancestors who were brought here on slave ships and forced to build this country, most of us never imagined the shift to illegal immigrant would be spoken directly to us. Until it was. On the landslide of proving your right to be in this country after your ancestors built it, food is literally being taken off the table. Momma Bee can you give the Bees a little Taste Of Honey on how they can Bee prepared in this ever-changing climate and let them know at what point can they start to feel secure.

Taste Of Honey

Blogger Bee go ahead and grab a couple of Big Jars of Honey out the Hive. Today we are going to pass out some heavy jars of honey for the Bees.

Don’t Get Comfortable—Build Skills and Certs

If we didn’t learn anything during this past year we should have learned to never get to comfortable. This ever-changing political climate has brought some nasty storms to our communities across the country. But we as Black People are resilient. This is not the time to get comfortable in your job. This is not the time to settle. That job that has you convinced that your seat at the table is secure. Don’t believe them. While they are constantly fixing you a small portion of spare spoils, be sure to get over to Home Depo AKA/ Black On The Job and start building your own table. Get you a full dose of career coaching with a separate plate of Skills and certs. Don’t spend your lunch break sitting at that same table you have been sitting at with that same company getting that same portion of scraps and on good days maybe a few leftovers. But, never quite enough to allow you to skip some days at the table but just enough to have you feeling “comfortable”.  Don’t get too comfortable!  Remember skills pay bills.

Instead of being comfortable in that starched uniform of deception you are being fed, start looking up recipes that will fit more into your ever-shrinking budget that no longer matches this ever-changing economy. In case you haven’t noticed the economy is constantly changing and the cost of living is constantly rising. Which means you are going to have to get a little uncomfortable in order to get comfortable.

Take the time out and grab the meat AKA Skills that you have acquired and start preparing for a real meal that you will be able to sit down with your family and eat. This political climate has even removed the foodstamps that your grandmother was depending on to eat. Which means you need to be able to step up and use your transferable skills to make room at the table for her to eat as well. This week at Black On The Job we will be focusing on what skills you have, what skills you need and how to acquire some additional certs so you can build a table that has several entrees that will better feed you and your family in this economy. As for the question you asked Blogger Bee as to when its ok to feel secure and comfortable? When your plate is full.

Well, MommaBee, that was some pretty strong advice and definitely a wake-up call. Thank you so much, I will drop these big Jars of honey off to the Bees. I know November is going to be a little rough for Bees all across the country and we want to make sure our Bees are going to Bee Prepared for whatever comes next. Remember, if you have a question that you would like MommaBee to answer DM us or post in the hive and hashtag #bloggerbee #mommabee or #tasteof honey.
